Course Outline

The purpose of the INDUSTRIAL MACHINE SHOP program is to prepare individuals to shape metal parts on machines, such as lathes, grinders, drill presses, and milling machines. Computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines are also introduced. This includes making computations for dimensions and cutting feeds and speeds, using precision measuring instruments, and laying out parts. Mathematics, blueprint reading, and sketching are taught concurrently throughout the course as they apply. The course content is organized into competency-based units of instruction that specify occupational competencies which the student must successfully complete. The course emphasizes safe and efficient work practices, basic occupational skills, and employability skills.
